Microsoft releases list of incompatible programs with Vista SP1
By Arnold Zafra
Following recently reported problems with the Windows Vista SP1 prerequisite updates, Microsoft is now releasing a list of programs that would pose compatibility problems with Vista SP1.These programs would either be blocked from starting, would not run after the installation, or would have a loss of functionality after the installation.
The list, which is in no way comprehensive, includes programs such as the New York Times Reader, Trend Micro Internet Security, and Free Allegiance, to name just a few.
For those programs which will have a change loss of functionality, but were not included in the list, Microsoft is advising to restart the PC where the Windows Vista SP1 was installed, and contact the software vendor to know find out whether updates are already available with a solution to the Vista SP1 compatibility problem.
Fortunately the list of programs which have compatibility problems with the Vista SP1 update is still lesser than those programs which will still work after the Vista SP1 is installed. Thought that’s not really mucy of a comfort.
My advice is that before installing the Vista SP1 update, you check that updates are available for any “incompatible” programs you need to use.
Here is the list of programs incompatible with Vista SP1 update:
Programs that are blocked from starting after you install Windows Vista SP1
- BitDefender AV or Internet Security
- Fujitsu Shock Sensor
- Jiangmin KV Antivirus
- Jiangmin KV Antivirus
- Trend Micro Internet Security
- Zone Alarm Security Suite
Programs that do not run after you install Windows Vista SP1
- Iron Speed Designer
- Xheo Licensing
- Free Allegiance
Programs that have a loss of functionality after you install Windows Vista SP1
- NYT Reader
- Rising Personal Firewall
- Novell ZCM Agent
