Jobs to Adobe, "iPhone is too good for Flash"
By Arnold Zafra
Looks like Adobe Flash fans won’t be seeing any Flash applications in their iPhones, in the near future. Apple chief Steve Jobs made the statement during Apple’s annual shareholders’ meeting. He said that "Flash is too slow to be useful for the iPhone." Jobs also said that even Flash Lite which is a scaled down version of Adobe Flash would be of any use for the capabilities of the iPhone.
Not to dishearten both loyal fans of Adobe Flash and Apple’s iPhone, Jobs gave a hint that Adobe may or is capable of coming out with a Flash-like product that would fulfill the requirements of the iPhone. But Adobe neither confirms or denies if it is actually working on something.
During the Mobile World Congress last month, Adobe issued a statement saying that:
"The time to radically improve user experience on mobile handsets is now… Content providers worldwide trust Adobe to deliver engaging experiences in print, on the Web, in video and now mobile is the target for innovative applications that showcase their brands and unique content."
No matter how convincing Adobe may sound in saying that their Flash technology is widely used in over 450 million devices, the figures are still not enough to convince Jobs to let Flash be brought into the iPhone.
Given the popularity of the iPhone in the mobile market, I guess it will just be a matter of time until we see something like Flash for then world’s greatest gadget.
